The federal government has said that it will begin fresh screening and examinations for senior cadre officers in the paramilitary services to close existing gaps at the top management levels.
Chairman of the board of Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Service Board, (CDCFIB), and Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this known at a media briefing following the meeting of the board, in Abuja.
The minister said that currently, there are existing vacancies in the senior managerial levels of the four paramilitary agencies, the Federal Fire Service, (FFS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), which would have to filled by upgrading officers below the ranks of Deputy Controllers and Assistant Controllers into the twopositions in the next one month.
Most of our Services now do not have deputy controller generals and if we have, there are not many therefore in line with the federal character, these position have to be filled,” he said.
It’s one of our decisions during our meeting that these positions should be filled with immediate effect and also the position of assistant controller general as well.”
Represented by the Controller General of the federal fire service, Engineer Jaji AbdulganiyuDr. Tunji-Ojopointed that to ratify these officers to fill the existing gaps, screening exercise for these positions would soon commence followed by an examination to select eligible officers that would fill in these positions.
“In some of the services, they are just covering duties which is not expected. So as a result of that, the board decides that this position will be filled from Monday, 9th of March,” he said.
“That is when the accreditation of the exercise of the officers will take place, 9th of March to 11th of March.
By end of March, that exercise should have been completed. That is the decision of the board for the position of deputy controller general in four services and assistant controller general of the four services.
He also said the issue of handbook for the board has also been debated and will soon get approval before being circulated to all the services and the public.
