Guardian NG  Feb 20

The protesting students of Federal University Lokoja have vowed not to resume classes until the federal and state government put in place adequate safety measures.

The students insist that even with the indefinite closure of the institution by management, they will continue to protest outside the school.

Spokesman of the protesting students, Ahmed Suleiman said, “The killing of our colleagues in the name of accident is unending, and we have been patient because the school management and government have always assured us that another accident will not happen again. Then another one happened this week. We can’t tolerate this any longer.”

Another protester said, “We have lost innocent Nigerian students who came to Lokoja to study, is it our fault to seek admissions in federal university Lokoja.

“If we failed to protest this untimely death of our fellow students, those of us still in school are not safe. We can’t continued to loose lives Nigerian youths in the name of education.”

The Guardian reports that management of the Federal University Lokoja on Thursday announced indefinite closure of the school due to unending protest by students.

“Students are therefore, to vacate the campuses on/or before 12 noon, today, Thursday, 20 February, 2025,” the management said.

The Guardian reports that a heavy-duty vehicle conveying palm oil and firewood that was heading towards Abuja rammed into a shuttle mini-bus taking students to school at Felele, Lokoja.

Eyewitnesses said the main street leading the school along Felele express way Lokoja is notorious for frequent accidents involving students of the school.
